The San Francisco 49ers have made a move to bolster their tight end corps, targeting a player from within the NFC. General manager John Lynch signed Detroit Lions restricted free agent tight end Brock Wright to a three-year, $12 million offer sheet, with $6 million guaranteed. The Lions now have five days to decide whether to match the offer or allow Wright to join the 49ers.

Initially tendered by the Lions with a one-year, $2.98 million offer, Wright’s future now hangs in the balance as Detroit weighs its options. Notably, if the Lions opt not to match the offer and Wright heads to San Francisco, they won’t receive any compensation since Wright entered the league as an undrafted free agent.

Wright, 25, started his NFL journey after going undrafted in 2021. A product of Notre Dame, he didn’t emerge as a significant receiving threat in college, tallying just seven receptions for 78 yards and one touchdown in 28 games.

In his NFL career spanning 41 games, Wright has hauled in 43 receptions for 424 yards and seven touchdowns. Last season marked a downturn for him statistically, as he recorded a career-low 91 receiving yards and one touchdown. Notably, he was absent from the NFC Championship game against the 49ers.
