Natalie Portman and a co-star with a Star Wars background are slated to spearhead a new Apple TV+ series. Both performers are well-known for their Star Wars roles, and their different personas are even canonically set in the same era.
Although casual fans may be more familiar with Portman’s actor Wars image, people who enjoy the more expansive aspects of the George Lucas-created property will also be very familiar with the actor with whom she will share the screen for Apple.
Portman played Padmé Amidala in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, which ran from 1999 to 2005. Natalie Portman’s portrayal of Padmé, who went from being the Queen of Naboo to the senator of that country before secretly marrying Darth Vader, was one of her most underappreciated performances.
One of Portman’s first significant film appearances was in 1999’s Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Star Wars actresses frequently only maintain their fame within the context of the franchise, but Portman’s performance in her trilogy guaranteed her future employment for many years. The same might apply to her prospective co-star at Apple.
Apple’s Lady In The Lake Is Led By Star Wars’ Natalie Portman & Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Moses Ingram
Lady in the Lake, an upcoming limited series for AppleTV+, starring Moses Ingram and Natalie Portman. Fans of Star Wars will be familiar with Ingram from the Obi-Wan Kenobi series from 2022, in which she portrayed Reva Sevander, also known as the Third Sister, an Inquisitor.
Reva was a former Jedi who worked under Darth Vader while hatching a plan to bring him down. She was one of the most interesting adversaries in the series. Reva appears to be about to die, but because of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s ending, she survives the events of the series and can return to other parts of the Star Wars universe.
In the 2005 film Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, Padmé meets her demise, however, Ingram’s Star Wars character has a less tragic ending than Portman’s.
Reva and Padmé never had an on-screen interaction because Revenge of the Sith takes place in the Star Wars universe before Obi-Wan Kenobi, but their respective actors will get that chance in Lady in the Lake. When Order 66 was carried out, Reva was a Youngling in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.
Consequently, the events of Obi-Wan Kenobi retrospectively modified Star Wars canon to reflect that Ingram’s character was near Padmé during the collapse of the Jedi, even though the character of Reva didn’t exist at the time of Revenge of the Sith.
Thus, although not being a Star Wars film, Lady in the Lake functions as a sort of meta reunion between Padmé (played by Natalie Portman) and Reva (played by Moses Ingram).
