Aegon’s Conquest is the subject of an HBO prequel about Game of Thrones, albeit there could be difficulties following a House of the Dragon retcon. Despite the contentious conclusion of Game of Thrones, HBO is still delving further into Westeros on the small screen. House of the Dragon was only the beginning of the franchise’s growth; numerous spinoffs are anticipated.

In addition to A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: A Hedge Knight, which has a series order, and other shows that are still pending confirmation, there is also the second season of House of the Dragon.

Among them is an Aegon’s Conquest spinoff that HBO is producing, which will allow viewers to witness the precise establishment of the Targaryen dynasty. Crucially, this also explains the true cause of Aegon’s initial conquest of Westeros.

Aegon’s Dream Must Be Part Of The Conquest Spinoff of Game of Thrones

One of the most important aspects of the show isn’t (yet) included in George R.R. Martin’s books, although an Aegon’s Conquest spinoff would need to borrow several important events from the author’s works. Rather, it originates from Aegon’s vision of the White Walkers in Season 1 of House of the Dragon.

The Conqueror’s prophecy, known as A Song of Ice and Fire, warned of an impending darkness that would engulf all of humanity and that only a Targaryen sitting on the Iron Throne could put an end to it. It transpired that this was the reason he overthrew Westeros.

Aegon’s dream is a huge retcon of Targaryen history by House of the Dragon, as it was never referenced in Martin’s own A Song of Ice and Fire novels, the Targaryen history book Fire & Blood, or Game of Thrones. That being the case, the Aegon Conquest offshoot is unable to ignore it.

It is now an integral part of the character of the Targaryen dynasty as much as his uniting Six of the Seven Kingdoms (despite Dorne’s resistance), forging the Iron Throne, and starting an over 300-year-long series of Westeros kings and queens.

Almost every period of Game of Thrones history that comes after Aegon the Conqueror’s A Song of Ice and Fire is greatly influenced by it. The Targaryen dynasty was altered because nearly every monarch would have known about it, even if some didn’t think it was true.

In House of the Dragons, Aegon’s dream and its confusion with The Prince That Was Promised prophecy become a major motivator for the Dance of the Dragons, and from a mistake at that. That much is evident, and part of the meaning of it. One can also observe Aegon’s dream’s influence on season 8 of Game of Thrones.

Given that the Conquest’s main goal was to eliminate the White Walkers, it stands to reason that Daenerys Targaryen’s reign was short-lived because their mission was accomplished.

Additionally, it lends credence to the notion that either Jon Snow or Daenerys is The Prince That Was Promised and emphasizes the significance of using Aegon’s prophecy-bearing catspaw dagger to slay the Night King.
