NCIS, the enduringly successful procedural series, is a true TV institution. But will it return for its historic 22nd season? NCIS, which debuted as a JAG spinoff back in 2003, centers on the agents of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service who look into crimes involving members of the US military.

Since Mark Harmon’s departure as Agent Leroy Gibbs, the show has successfully changed course and continued to rank among the most watched procedurals.

The first of multiple NCIS spinoffs aired during the sixth season of the show, and NCIS: Los Angeles went on to have an amazing 14 seasons of its own. Since then, several spinoffs have made their premieres to varied degrees of popularity, and the brand has continued to grow with the inclusion of NCIS: Sydney and Hawaii.

With the recently announced NCIS: Origins, which will examine Agent Gibbs’ early years, the NCIS world is taking a bold step forward. NCIS season 22 looks like a given because of the intense excitement that surrounds the show, but nothing is known as of yet.

NCIS Season 22 Is Not Confirmed

It’s hardly shocking that NCIS season 22 is still a secret given that the 21st season is now running. As things stand right now, the flagship series’ future appears to be rather secure, as season 21 of the venerable procedural shows no signs of ending.

CBS won’t bury the lede when NCIS does wind down, and there will be a lot of build-up and promotion for its last season. In light of this, a season 22 renewal is almost certain to occur by mid-season or close to the conclusion. Season-to-season variation is rare in the casts of procedural television programs such as NCIS.

But a lot of clues in NCIS season 21 point to the possibility of a significant development within the cast, raising questions for season 22. It’s safe to assume, though, that the whole NCIS season 21 ensemble will return to reprise their roles unless something is confirmed.

This implies that fans can anticipate seeing Sean Murray’s Timothy Mcgee, who plays Alden Parker’s second in command, and Gary Cole, who plays Supervisory Special Agent Alden Parker, return.
