Corey Davis Speculates His Return

Less than a year after announcing his hiatus from professional football, former NFL wide receiver Corey Davis is making a comeback. Davis, aged 29, has applied for reinstatement to the league after spending a season on the reserve/retired list.

In August of the previous year, just before the commencement of the 2023 season, Davis declared his intention to take a break from the sport, citing a desire to dedicate more time to his family. Although he didn’t officially retire, the New York Jets categorized him as such, eventually releasing him from his contract.

While a return to the Jets on a new deal remains a possibility, Davis is expected to explore his options in the free-agent market. Originally selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans, the Western Michigan alum became one of the Jets’ key offseason acquisitions in 2021.

Davis signed a three-year, $37.5 million contract to bolster New York’s aerial attack. However, injuries sidelined him for 12 games over his first two seasons with the team before he opted for a hiatus in 2023.

Before joining the Jets, Davis showcased his talent in Tennessee, emerging as one of the Titans’ primary receiving targets. In two of his initial four seasons, he surpassed 65 receptions and 850 receiving yards, reaching a career-best of 984 yards and five touchdowns in 2020.
