Prince Nikolaos and Princess Tatiana of Greece have announced their decision to divorce after 13 years of marriage, as per a statement released by their office on Friday, April 19.

The couple shared that they have chosen to end their marriage following fourteen years together. “Both acknowledge the difficulty of this decision and hold mutual appreciation and respect for each other, enriched by the love that has characterized their years together.”

Prince Nikolaos and Princess Tatiana plan to remain in Greece and maintain a friendship. The statement highlighted that their future interactions will continue to be defined by mutual respect and understanding, aiming for “a relationship of deep and sincere friendship.”

This development surprised some royal followers, especially since just two months earlier, in February 2024, the pair appeared closely united during the thanksgiving service for King Constantine II, Nikolaos’ father.

They were seen arm in arm at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, despite Prince William canceling his planned attendance due to his wife Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis.

In a 2016 interview, Tatiana reflected on her life in Greece, noting that despite her royal status, she led a simple, normal life. “I live a very simple life here—I work, I go to the supermarket, I cook, I walk my dog. The Greek people have welcomed me with philoxenia, a love of strangers, which I’ve felt very strongly,” she said.

Tatiana also touched upon her views on royalty after marrying Prince Nikolaos in 2010 on the island of Spetses, dismissing the importance of titles. “I do not feel like a princess,” she stated. “Yes, he is my prince, but that’s all there is to it. Being part of this family is a privilege and an honor.”
