On August 14, Akbar V took to social media to respond to Latto’s declaration of Lil’ Kim as the G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time) female rapper. Akbar V, who is a reality TV personality, expressed strong disagreement with Latto’s choice and voiced her support for Nicki Minaj as the true G.O.A.T.
According to Akbar V, while Lil’ Kim and other female rappers like Foxy Brown, Eve, and Missy Elliot have made significant contributions, Nicki Minaj has had the most enduring impact on the genre, especially during periods when female rappers faced industry challenges.
In her response, Akbar V highlighted Minaj’s pivotal role in revitalizing female rap and maintaining a dominant presence in the industry. She argued that Minaj should be recognized for her unparalleled influence and longevity. Akbar V also urged Latto to acknowledge Minaj’s contributions more openly, emphasizing that mutual respect between artists doesn’t preclude honest recognition of achievements.
Akbar V’s social media post appeared to touch on past tensions between Latto and Nicki Minaj, referencing a dispute from October 2022. During that conflict, Minaj criticized the Recording Academy’s classification of rap and pop tracks, which led to a public exchange of insults between the two rappers. Latto’s choice of Lil’ Kim as the G.O.A.T. was made during a conversation with her sister Brooklyn for Complex.
