Director Matthew Vaughn’s latest spy film, “Argylle,” starring Henry Cavill as the fictional Agent Argylle, has sparked intriguing possibilities for the franchise’s future. The movie follows the adventures of Agent Argylle, leading to real-life author Elly Conway’s involvement when her accurate predictions attract attention from an actual spy syndicate.

The release of the first Argylle book by the mysterious author Elly Conway added complexity, and the end credits promise a film adaptation titled “Argylle: Book One.”

In an interview with Polygon, Vaughn shared insights into this ambitious franchise plan. If Apple approves the project, the intention is to adapt the in-universe Argylle plot into a standalone feature without the meta element.

Following this, “Argylle 2” would bring back “real-life” characters like Elly Conway for a new adventure. Vaughn expressed excitement about the potential and said, “We’ve got some really fun ideas for that. And if we pull both of those off, then who knows what’s next?”

The success of the first “Argylle” movie will play a crucial role in determining the feasibility of this unique franchise concept. Despite its $200 million budget, the film’s box office performance and eventual streaming debut on Apple TV+ could influence the greenlighting of a follow-up feature.

Vaughn, known for his “Kingsman” franchise, has a track record of bringing unconventional offerings to the spy genre, with “The King’s Man” serving as a prequel set in World War I.

While “The King’s Man” faced challenges at the box office during a pandemic-affected period, Vaughn’s ability to challenge traditional franchise norms remains evident. The fate of “Argylle’s” unconventional plans for Elly Conway and “Argylle 2” hinges on audience interest in the upcoming weeks, and the success of the film could set these ambitious ideas into motion.
