At the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony red carpet, stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo made a striking impression by embodying their Wicked characters’ signature colors. Grande chose a 1950s-inspired sleeveless pink gown by Thom Browne, which fell gracefully to her ankles.

The dress was complemented by a pink bow at the front and was styled with white gloves and a long pink bow in her hair, adding a classic and feminine touch to her ensemble.

Cynthia Erivo also embraced a vintage aesthetic with her outfit, donning a strapless emerald green gown that mirrored her character Elphaba’s iconic color. The gown featured an angular skirt and was accessorized with a wide-brimmed hat, giving it a dramatic flair. Erivo’s look was completed with color-coordinated long, intricately decorated nails, opting for a more modern twist by skipping gloves.

The two stars, who are set to portray Elphaba and Glinda in Jon M. Chu’s upcoming adaptation of the Tony-winning musical Wicked, have openly expressed their enthusiasm for their roles. Their appearance at the ceremony showcased their commitment to their characters, with each wearing costumes reflective of their Wicked personas.

Erivo and Grande have also shown their strong bond and mutual appreciation through social media, sharing moments of their coordinated red carpet-looks. They posted pictures holding hands, highlighting their close friendship and support for one another, which is evident in their shared excitement for their roles.

Their camaraderie extends beyond public appearances; they have celebrated their friendship with matching tattoos. The duo got inked with “For Good” tattoos, inspired by their characters’ famous duet in Wicked, along with matching flower tattoos. The release date for the highly anticipated musical adaptation has been moved up to November 22, 2024, from its previous date of November 27.
