Undoubtedly, Bob Hearts Abishola is among the most unexpected breakout successes on CBS in recent times. It’s not surprising that the network has continued to air this show over the years because it’s clever, funny, and has strong character development.

This long-running sitcom will conclude with Season 5, which promises to finally finish up Bob and Abishola’s narrative with a plotline centered mostly on the couple’s preparations to move to Baltimore. But there will probably be some hiccups along the way.

Recap

Abishola browses through Dele’s phone in the first scene of the season. Bob enters and gives her a kiss, wondering why Dele isn’t present to witness her spying on her. He is surprised that she is searching for his Harvard admission letter because he would have assumed that she would be looking for porn.

He complains about attempting to help after they fight about snooping until she goes. When Dele enters, Abishola is talking on the phone with Harvard. When she inquires about his application, he confesses that he never submitted one, but she still wants to follow up.

He acknowledges that he enrolled in Julliard’s dance program after she hangs up. They quarrel over this and leave. Bob, Ebun, and Abishola later quarrel over what to do. Bob believes that sending Ebun to Nigeria would be a bad idea since he believes Dele will be alright. Because they all believe they know what is best for Dele, the three of them quarrel.

The following morning, Abishola gives Dele breakfast and discusses Harvard vs. Julliard with him. He claims that applying to Julliard is more difficult than to Harvard and that he shared a dancing video with her along with his Harvard essay.

He claims that many superstars applied and succeeded, but Abishola is still unsure and tries to show him those who failed in the arts. When Bob enters, they are still arguing because he wants to know what is going on.

When Dele tries to leave, Bob initially encourages him not to walk away from his mother, but he insists he is going to Julliard no matter what. After a heated disagreement, Dele declares he is going to depart permanently. Even though she paid for the jacket, Abishola informs him he won’t be welcome again but he can have it.

When Dele arrives at Tunde and Olu’s, Olu turns him away. Olu claims he disrespected his mother; Tunde disagrees. After much back and forth about what to do, they decide to let him in for dinner and then send him on his way.

Later, Olu and Tunde visit Abishola and Ebun to inform them that Dele is staying at their house. They all dispute about what ought to have been done and about Dele’s fundamental rights as an American. Olu speaks with Dele that evening; he’s disappointed with the way things have gone. She reassures him that everything will be alright.

She keeps trying to cheer him up by doing a Shakira impression, but he wonders what will happen if he fails. They continue their heart-to-heart conversation till Tunde declares he is lonely and in bed. She ensures that Dele will wear his headphones and that he has them.

Abishola, who is upset over Dele’s talent, watches his audition tape back at home. As Bob joins her, he remarks that Dele is missing her and that the apartment feels empty.

Despite his claims that he was messaging Dele, she doesn’t buy it. He consoles her and encourages her to have faith because he knows that she is still unhappy about the whole thing. Bob reassures her that Dele needs her because she is still scared.
