Britney Spears is continuing child support payments to her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, despite both of their sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, reaching adulthood. Sean turned 19 on September 14, and Jayden turned 18 on September 12, 2023.

Under California law, Britney is required to keep supporting Jayden until he graduates from high school. As a result, the payments will continue until his expected graduation in November 2023, following legal requirements that child support extends past the age of 18 if the child is still in school, but ends no later than their 19th birthday.

Kevin Federline’s lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, confirmed that Britney’s child support obligations for Jayden are consistent with California’s laws.

Child support generally ends when a child turns 18, but if the child has not yet graduated high school by their 18th birthday, payments are extended until graduation. Kaplan stated that Jayden’s graduation is scheduled for November 2023, after which the child support payments will end.

Throughout the years, Britney has expressed her love and care for her sons, despite a strained relationship. In June 2023, she shared a nostalgic photo of herself with Jayden on Instagram, using tulip emojis in the caption.

This post came shortly after it was revealed that both sons, along with their father Kevin and his family, had relocated to Hawaii, seeking a quieter life away from the public eye in Los Angeles.

Sean and Jayden have largely remained out of the spotlight during their upbringing, but they did speak publicly about their relationship with Britney in a 2022 documentary.

Jayden emphasized that there was no hatred toward their mother, but mending their bond would require significant time and effort. He expressed hope that Britney would improve mentally, so they could reconnect in the future.

Britney responded to her son’s comments on Instagram in September 2022, stating that she had tried her best to be a good person and hoped her sons would one day understand her struggles.

She sent love to them in her message, hoping they could understand her perspective and the difficulties she had faced during the period when she felt constrained under legal and personal pressures.
