In a recent announcement by NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski on X (formerly Twitter), it was revealed that the Brooklyn Nets are poised to hire Sacramento Kings assistant Jordi Fernandez as their next head coach.

Adrian Wojnarowski’s post stated, “Jordi Fernandez has emerged as the Brooklyn Nets’ choice to become the franchise’s next coach, separating himself in a wide, month-long search that now has the Nets prepared to hire the Sacramento Kings’ top assistant.”

Fernandez, who joined the Kings just ahead of the 2018 season, played a pivotal role in guiding the team to their first postseason appearance in over two decades.

Under his guidance, Kings’ head coach Mike Brown was recognized as the Coach of the Year, and the team finished with an impressive 46-36 record, advancing to the NBA play-in round.

Jordi Fernandez has an impressive coaching journey yet

The Brooklyn Nets have undergone significant changes in their coaching staff in recent years. Following the 2018-19 season, Sean Marks made the decision to part ways with Kenny Atkinson, the team’s initial head coach during the rebuilding phase. This change marked a shift as the Nets transitioned to contending with star players Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

After a successful tenure of over two seasons, the Nets moved on from Atkinson and brought in Steve Nash as head coach. Now, Jordi Fernandez, originally from Barcelona and currently the coach of the Canadian national team, is set to take the helm of the Nets.

Fernandez’s coaching journey includes stints with the Spanish and Nigerian national teams, along with interviewing for coaching positions with the Toronto Raptors, Phoenix Suns, and Milwaukee Bucks.

Notably, his Canadian team secured a bronze medal in the FIBA World Cup last year, showcasing his coaching prowess on the international stage.
