The Carolina Panthers, under the guidance of new general manager Dan Morgan, have been proactive in bolstering their defensive lineup during the early stages of free agency. This initiative became imperative following the departure of key defensive figures like pass rusher Brian Burns, who was traded to the New York Giants, along with the exits of Jeremy Chinn and Vonn Bell to other teams.
In their quest to reinforce the defense, the Panthers secured the services of former Los Angeles Rams safety Jordan Fuller. Fuller’s new deal is reported to be valued at up to $5.25 million. Additionally, on the same day, the Panthers struck a one-year agreement with former Jacksonville Jaguars pass rusher K’Lavon Chaisson.
Fuller, a product of Ohio State, entered the league as a sixth-round pick by the Rams in 2020. He has since started in 46 games for Los Angeles over four seasons, showcasing his versatility and impact on the field. In his 2023 campaign, Fuller tallied impressive statistics, notching 94 combined tackles, eight passes defended, three interceptions, and three forced fumbles across 17 games.
Ranked as Pete Prisco’s No. 71 free agent this offseason, Fuller brings considerable experience and skill to the Panthers’ secondary. Notably, he shares a history with Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, having worked together during Evero’s tenure as a defensive assistant in Los Angeles.
In addition to Fuller, the Panthers have also reinforced their defensive unit with signings such as former Buffalo Bills cornerback Dane Jackson, Minnesota Vikings defensive end D.J. Wonnum, New York Giants defensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson, and former Denver Broncos linebacker Josey Jewell. These acquisitions signal the Panthers’ commitment to fortifying their defensive prowess ahead of the upcoming season.
