Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced murder and felony charges against Lyndell Mays and Dominic M. Miller in connection with the deadly shooting at a Kansas City Chiefs rally.

Mays and Miller face second-degree murder charges, along with other felony counts, following the altercation that claimed the life of Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a mother of two and local DJ.

The incident, classified as the 48th mass shooting of 2024, left Lopez-Galvan dead and over 20 others wounded, disrupting what had been a celebratory event for the Super Bowl champions.

Charging documents reveal a verbal altercation escalating into gunfire, with Mays and Miller both sustaining injuries in the exchange. Surveillance footage captures the chaotic scene, with Mays seen chasing and shooting at individuals while Miller fires from amidst the crowd.

Confessions from both defendants shed light on the events leading up to the tragedy. Mays admitted to impulsively opening fire, while Miller claimed self-defense after being disarmed by a witness. Lopez-Galvan’s autopsy confirmed that the fatal bullet was fired from Miller’s weapon, further solidifying the charges against him.
