Chloe Kim Makes History: First Woman To Land 1260 In X Games Women's Halfpipe

Chloe Kim recently achieved a groundbreaking feat, becoming the inaugural woman to successfully execute 1260 in a women’s snowboard halfpipe competition at the X Games.

Since her debut at the 2014 X Games, the 23-year-old Kim has secured her seventh X Games Aspen title, matching her mentor Kelly Clark’s record for the most X Games Aspen titles. In a remarkable display during the Friday finals, she executed a cab 1260 after her last run. Notably, she had already secured the title before the record-breaking move, showcasing her dominance by landing the maneuver during her victory lap.

“I wanted to do that trick for a long time,” she said. “I wish it was a little cleaner, but I’m stoked that I was able to put it down.”

Following her groundbreaking halfpipe landing, the X Games celebrated Chloe Kim’s achievement on X (formerly Twitter): “@ChloeKim secures her 7th #XGames SuperPipe gold, matching mentor Kelly Clark’s record. In her victory lap, she pioneers the first woman to land a 1260 in a women’s snowboard superpipe competition. #XGamesAspen.”

During the first event at the X Games last week, Chloe Kim faced challenges, finishing fourth after encountering falls in both of her final runs.

Chloe Kim soared to international stardom at the age of 17, clinching her first gold medal in the halfpipe at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics.

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Chloe Kim made her competitive return this month after participating in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Despite successfully landing the 1260 in practice ahead of the 2022 event, she faced challenges executing the move during the competition.

In preparation for the 2026 games, Kim commenced training in October 2023 at a camp in Switzerland. Remarkably, her coach revealed that she has achieved the milestone of becoming the first woman to land a 1440 in training.

Chloe Kim aims to make history by vying for the title of the first woman to secure three Olympic snowboarding gold medals at the 2026 Olympics. This achievement would place her in esteemed company alongside fellow American Olympic snowboarder Shaun White, who stands as the sole male athlete to achieve three Olympic snowboarding gold medals.

Following the X Games, Chloe Kim is set to participate in the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix at Mammoth Mountain, California.
