PVR Inox Pictures confirmed with ANN on Monday that the City Hunter franchise’s latest anime film, City Hunter The Movie: Angel Dust (Gekijо̄ban City Hunter: Tenshi no Namida), is set to hit Indian theaters on April 5.

Originally released in Japan on September 8 last year, the film immediately claimed the #1 spot at the box office during its opening weekend. It garnered significant success, selling 210,000 tickets and earning 324,949,388 yen (about US$2.21 million) within its first three days. As of October 1, the film has amassed a cumulative total of 892,312,582 yen (about US$5.95 million).

The film reunites a stellar cast of returning voice actors, including Akira Kamiya as Ryo Saeba, Kazue Ikura as Kaori Makimura, Harumi Ichiryūsai as Saeko Nogami, Tesshō Genda as Umibozu, and Mami Koyama as Miki.

Additionally, the three Kisugi thief sisters from the Cat’s Eye anime make a return appearance, with Keiko Toda and Chika Sakamoto reprising their roles as Hitomi and Ai. Rica Fukami takes on the role of Rui, following the passing of Toshiko Fujita, who originally voiced the character in the Cat’s Eye anime.

Directed by City Hunter franchise director Kenji Kodama, the film was produced by Sunrise and The Answer Studio Co., Ltd., with Yasuyuki Mutō (Deadman Wonderland) penning the screenplay. Aniplex is handling distribution for the movie.

City Hunter The Movie: Angel Dust goees into the backstory of Ryo Saeba and explores the circumstances surrounding the death of his former partner, Hideyuki Makimura. The narrative also goes into the significance of Angel Dust, a pivotal element from the original series.

The film features theme songs by TM Network, including the opening track “Whatever Comes” and the iconic ending theme “Get Wild,” which harks back to the original anime series.

This new anime film serves as a commemoration of the television anime’s 35th anniversary, further solidifying the enduring legacy of the City Hunter franchise.
