Following the departure of two offensive linemen within the week, the Cleveland Browns bolstered their depth at the position by signing Germain Ifedi, a former first-round pick, as announced by the team.

Ifedi, drafted 31st by the Seattle Seahawks in 2016, brings versatility to the Browns’ offensive line, having played both guard and tackle throughout his career.

Despite being a regular starter for the Seahawks in his four-year tenure, Ifedi did not crack the starting lineup in 2023. His brief stint with the Buffalo Bills in the previous season saw him sidelined for all games.

However, his flexibility on the field, with 59 starts at right tackle and 24 at right guard out of 83 career starts, makes him a valuable addition to the Browns.

With the unexpected loss of offensive tackle Leroy Watson to the Tennessee Titans through a recent trade and Justin Murray’s surprise retirement, the Browns sought to fortify their offensive line depth.

Although Ifedi’s signing addresses immediate needs, particularly with Murray’s retirement, it is unlikely to alter the team’s draft strategy, especially concerning the pursuit of offensive tackles in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.
