American and French forces responded vigorously to Houthi drone attacks in the Red Sea. The strikes targeted a cargo vessel and US destroyers, escalating tensions in the region amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that 37 drones were deployed against the vessels. US Navy and coalition forces intercepted and destroyed 15 of the drones, preventing potential threats to merchant and military ships.

The coordinated attack occurred between 4 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., prompting swift defensive measures from CENTCOM. French warships and fighter jets also engaged in combat, successfully downing four drones approaching European naval vessels.

These defensive actions aimed to protect cargo ships like the True Confidence, which had been targeted in a previous attack on March 6.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations confirmed an attempted attack on the Singapore-flagged Propel Fortune. Although the vessel experienced two explosions, all crew members remained safe, and the ship continued its journey unharmed. UKMTO attributed the attack to outdated US ownership data associated with the vessel.

Sarea emphasized the Houthis’ intent to persist with attacks until the Gaza blockade is lifted and aggression against Palestinians ceases. The ongoing conflict in the region has heightened tensions and led to increased hostilities, with maritime vessels becoming targets in geopolitical maneuvers.

The response from international naval forces underscores the seriousness of the situation and the need to safeguard maritime trade routes amid escalating regional tensions.
