June Lenker became fixated on the Errol Mathis case, as we saw in the previous episode of Criminal Record, and she realized that she wouldn’t be able to quit until she discovered the truth. Hegarty had faith in his ability to manage Lenker and his ability to keep his secrets hidden. So let’s recap what happened in episode 5 end and see if June and Sonya achieved any progress.

As we saw in the previous episode of Criminal Record, June Lenker grew obsessed with the Errol Mathis case and realized she would never be able to let go of it until she found out. Hegarty trusted that he could control Lenker and keep his secrets to himself. Let’s review the events of episode 5’s conclusion and determine whether June and Sonya made any progress.

Criminal Record Episode 5 Ending Explained

Two significant developments that could soon alter the course of events occurred at the end of Criminal Record Episode 5. Initially, June and Sonya felt it was high time they informed Doris that her son was innocent and that they had good grounds to think he had been falsely accused.

Doris was forced to listen to the call recording from that day that Carla had made from that phone booth in Heyes Lane to the emergency helpline. When Doris received that confirmation, she was unable to contain her tears. She had been fighting the authorities on her own for years, hoping that someday a miracle would happen and she would find proof that Errol Mathis was not guilty.

Second, there was a twist when we discovered that Hegarty was purchasing medications for his daughter Lisa rather than for himself. After seeing Patrick, Lisa returned, took an injection, and collapsed onto her bed. We’re not sure how she got so dependent on drugs, nor why Hegarty did nothing about it. I think there are still a lot of unanswered questions regarding Hegarty.

He has a history of doing some sinister things, and he is doing everything in his power to conceal the facts now that his reputation is on the line. The Criminal Record’s upcoming episodes will reveal if June backs off or continues looking into the situation, as well as whether Hegarty and his associates can get by on their own.

We saw earlier in Criminal Record episode 5 that Sonya was following Hegarty around and discovered that she regularly went to see Miras Mansoor, a heroin dealer. June wanted to get even with Hegarty and tell him that what he had done with her kid was unfair, but neither Sonya nor June knew why Hegarty had gone to see the drug dealer at that point.

He placed Mansoor under arrest and instructed him to contact Hegarty, telling him where she was to be met. That’s where we learned in Criminal Record episode 5 that Kim had acted independently of Hegarty, who for the first time had been ignorant of the occurrence.
