June Lenker became fixated on the Errol Mathis case, as we saw in the previous episode of Criminal Record, and she realized that she wouldn’t be able to quit until she discovered the truth. Hegarty had faith in his ability to manage Lenker and his ability to keep his secrets hidden. So let’s recap what happened in episode 5 and see if June and Sonya achieved any progress.

June and Leo revisit the Errol Mathis case in the opening scene of “Possession with Intent,” adding a coworker’s perspective this time. She makes the argument that it is possible to influence memories and even implant false ones in someone’s head to force them to react in a specific way. This could account for Errol’s first admission.

Episode 5, “Possession with Intent,” brings Criminal Records back into focus as we move into the second half of Season 1. The suspenseful next chapter sees more devastating events in June’s personal life, adding to the drama. In yet another horrifying example of the pervasive bigotry and corruption in the police department, the Sixty-Twos attack her son next.

June Lenker had developed an obsession with the Errol Mathis case, and she was determined to disprove all of her beliefs. Although her spouse believed that she was making connections where none existed, June was certain that her gut feeling was correct.

June just was unable to concentrate on anything else in her life because she was constantly considering Hegarty’s potential next move. She questioned whether it was feasible to implant a fake memory in someone’s brain with a neuropsychiatrist. When the specialist informed her that it was far simpler than she had anticipated, June’s misgivings were even stronger.

The specialist informed her that memory loss may occur when a person undergoes trauma because it might impair the hippocampus, a region of the brain. June’s spouse, Leo, was growing a little weary of her fixation. He believed that June needed to step back and allow Hegarty to handle the situation. Hegarty was a dangerous man who could do anything, so he knew she was jeopardizing her family’s safety.

However, June was unable to abandon the case at that point. She was aware that the consequences of her conduct might come back to haunt her. When June visited Clive in prison, she showed him pictures of Hegarty with his two buddies, Tony and Kim, and inquired as to whether they were members of the combat league.

Although he had never seen Hegarty at league meetings, Clive informed her that he had once run across Tony. June most likely did the worst thing after learning this information: she went straight to Tony’s house and asked him directly if he was a member of the fascist group. 

June endangered not just her family’s safety but also her job by doing this. First of all, she ought to have realized that Tony would not take anything from her, and secondly, Hegarty would have learned of it and responded accordingly. Hegarty thought he had enough power over June at this point, but Kim Cardwell did something that ruined his whole plan.
