Just as it was last offseason, questions regarding Danielle Hunter’s future with the Minnesota Vikings are at the forefront. The two parties agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $20 million for the 2023 season, but with the year having passed, free agency looms.

Having spent his entire eight-season career with Minnesota, the pass rusher had an outstanding year in 2023, setting career highs in combined tackles (83), solo tackles (54), assists on tackles (29), and sacks (16.5). His league-leading 23 tackles for a loss and 86 quarterback pressures (fourth in the NFL, according to Next Gen Stats) showcased his exceptional performance.

Addressing his future, Hunter stated, “Just letting everything play its course. I did my job. Everything’s in my agent’s hands and my team—and whomever it is that’s out there. My job, like I said, is to do my job. And I’m gonna make sure I stay in shape, and whatever is best available for me, I’ll take that.” Hunter believes he has demonstrated his value and is now patiently awaiting whatever unfolds next.

“Staying in shape, doing my part, and then when the time comes, my agent or the Vikings, they’ll come to a decision,” remarked Hunter. “We’ll see what’s best when the time comes.”

Hunter’s outstanding season earned him his fourth Pro Bowl selection, marking his second consecutive year receiving the honor. He attributed his success to the support of his coaches and teammates.

Reflecting on the season, Hunter stated, “Just doing my job. I take pride in doing what I do. It wasn’t just me alone; my teammates and defensive coordinator put me in the best position to make plays for my team. Like I said, wish I could do more, like making us going to the playoffs.”‘

Acknowledging the challenges faced by the Vikings in the 2023 season, which ended with a 7-10 record and notable injuries to key players like Kirk Cousins, Justin Jefferson, and T.J. Hockenson, Hunter recognized the “a lot of ups and downs.” Despite the adversity, he emphasized that the team learned and grew together, dealing with unfortunate circumstances as a cohesive unit.
