LAS VEGAS — In a city known for its penchant for the extraordinary, this week leading up to the Super Bowl is no exception. Early Wednesday morning, one individual decided to embark on an unconventional adventure by climbing the Sphere, Las Vegas’ latest attraction that has been capturing attention since its official opening in July.

The climber, identified as Maison Des Champs by the Las Vegas Review Journal, successfully scaled the building, prompting authorities to close traffic in the vicinity for safety measures. Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill revealed that efforts were underway to safely bring Des Champs down from the structure.

“This is supposed to be an individual that is climbing the building for publicity, and he is currently on top of the building, and we’re working to get him down,” Mahill informed the media on Wednesday. By 11:30 a.m. PT, law enforcement had successfully taken him into custody. “We are grateful to the local authorities for their support in this matter,” stated a Sphere entertainment spokesperson in response to the incident. “The individuals involved are currently in the custody of LVMPD.”

Des Champs, an activist, explained on his Facebook page that the climb was intended to raise funds for a homeless pregnant woman. The timing of this stunt, just four days before the Super Bowl, raised concerns about security, given the typically stringent measures in the host city during such major events.

There is apprehension that such acts could potentially inspire less experienced individuals to attempt similar feats. Des Champs, however, is described as a seasoned climber. As for the Sphere itself, CBS plans to feature the distinctive attraction on Super Bowl Sunday, incorporating several cutaways showcasing the iconic building.
