Denver Nuggets Star Michael Porter Jr.’s Brother Sentenced to Prison

Recently, the younger brother of Denver Nuggets star Michael Porter Jr. received a six-year prison sentence. In January 2023, Coban Porter was involved in a drunk driving incident resulting in the death of Kathy Limon Rothman.

The crash claimed Kathy’s life and caused severe injuries to her passengers. Coban admitted guilt, leading to a reduced sentence capped at eight years.

Speeding and intoxicated, Coban’s blood alcohol level was 0.19, well above the legal limit of 0.08. “All I can say is that I am sorry. I know that I am never going to be able to right the wrong. … I never thought I would be standing here. I thought I was invincible. It isn’t the first time I chose to drink and drive. I am so sorry,” said Porter in court.

Formerly a freshman at the University of Denver and a basketball team member, Porter averaged 11.4 points in the 2021-22 season.

Michael Porter Jr. faced emotional turmoil due to his brother’s plight, even missing team practice to attend Coban’s sentencing. Nevertheless, he received unwavering support from his coach and teammates.

Teammate Jamal Murray revealed that Porter’s family issues aren’t discussed in the locker room, maintaining professionalism while offering support.
