Dick Van Dyke, at the age of 98, has set a record with his latest Daytime Emmy nomination, announced on April 19. He received this nomination for his guest star role in the soap opera “Days of Our Lives.”

In September 2023, Van Dyke made his debut in the series as Timothy Robicheaux in a special four-episode arc.

To prepare for his role, Van Dyke immersed himself in the show, watching numerous episodes to understand the ongoing performances. He noted the challenges of soap opera acting, including dramatic pauses punctuated by music, reflecting the show’s style.

His character was revealed to be the long-lost father of Hogestyn’s character, John Black, during his time on the show.

This isn’t Van Dyke’s first Daytime Emmy nomination; he previously won in 1984 for “CBS Library: The Wrong Way Kid” and in 2015 for “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Mickey’s Pirate Adventure.”

He also boasts five Primetime Emmy awards, a Tony Award, and a Grammy, leaving only an Oscar to complete his EGOT status. Van Dyke, who famously starred in “Mary Poppins,” shared in a December 2023 CBS’ “Sunday Morning” interview that he has enjoyed a fortunate career by simply pursuing what he loves.

He expressed pity for those who dislike their jobs, emphasizing how much he looks forward to work every day. “If I’m not enjoying myself, I’m really bad,” he stated. “It’s such a blessing to find a way of making a living that you love, that you’d do for nothing.”
