Director Kim Jin-min Praises Ahn Eun-jin, Addresses Challenges With Yoo Ah-in’s Role In “Goodbye Earth”

At the press conference for Netflix’s new original series “Goodbye Earth,” director Kim Jin-min highlighted Ahn Eun-jin’s exceptional portrayal of her character, Se-Kyung, underscoring her as his first choice for the role even before her rise to fame. The series follows the impending collision of an asteroid with Earth and the human responses to an impending apocalypse. 

Describing the thematic essence of the drama, Director Kim emphasized the resilience and heroism of characters who choose to confront challenges rather than flee, portraying their journey with dignity and valour amidst extraordinary circumstances.

Ahn Eun-jin delved into her character’s motivations, portraying Se-kyung as a compassionate teacher dedicated to safeguarding her students despite personal trauma and overwhelming odds. Her commitment to the role resonates with the central themes of courage and duty in the face of impending catastrophe.

Director Kim candidly addressed challenges faced during production, particularly concerning actor Yoo Ah-in’s legal issues, which necessitated careful re-editing of the series. While efforts were made to minimize Yoo Ah-in’s screen presence, Director Kim stressed the importance of maintaining narrative coherence and character relevance in the storyline.

Despite the complexities surrounding the project, Director Kim expressed optimism about the series’s philosophical themes and accessibility to viewers. He emphasized the collaborative effort to deliver a compelling and thought-provoking narrative that transcends conventional apocalyptic storytelling.

“Goodbye Earth” is set to premiere on Netflix on April 26th, promising an exploration of human resilience and solidarity in the face of impending doom.
