The Miami Dolphins have secured the services of running back Raheem Mostert for the foreseeable future by restructuring his contract to add another year, extending his tenure with the team through the 2025 season. Mostert’s agent, Brett Tessler, announced the contract extension on social media, revealing that the new two-year deal could be worth up to $9.075 million.

Mostert first joined the Dolphins in 2022 on a one-year deal and has since become a key contributor to the team’s backfield. This will be his second stint with the Dolphins, having initially joined the team in 2015 during his rookie season. Last offseason, he signed a two-year, $5.6 million contract extension, and with this latest restructure, he’ll remain a vital part of the Dolphins’ plans for the next few seasons.

Under head coach Mike McDaniel, who previously coached him during their time with the San Francisco 49ers, Mostert has thrived. In the 2023 season, he enjoyed the most productive year of his career, rushing for over a thousand yards for the first time, leading the league with 18 rushing touchdowns, and tying Christian McCaffrey for the most total touchdowns from scrimmage with 21.

Mostert’s contributions were instrumental in earning him his first Pro Bowl appearance.

As an undrafted rookie, Mostert started his NFL journey in 205. He initially moved through several teams, including the Eagles, Dolphins, Ravens, and Browns, all within his rookie year. Subsequently, he had brief stints with the Jets and Bears before finding a home with the 49ers. It was in 2019 that he made his mark, rushing for 772 yards and eight touchdowns, establishing himself as a breakout star.

Despite starting 29 of his 32 regular-season games for the Dolphins in the past two seasons, the upcoming year presents an intriguing shift for Mostert. This is especially true with the emergence of second-year running back De’Von Achane, a third-round pick from Texas A&M in 2023.

Achane’s potential as a feature back in Miami’s offense adds an element of curiosity regarding how Coach McDaniel will manage the backfield rotation as Achane continues to develop in his sophomore year.
