Warner Bros.’ Dune: Part Two continues to do well in theaters, even though it’s also available online. The movie expanded its IMAX screenings in its eighth week and is close to making $700 million worldwide. Released in March, the film has been a big success this year.

This weekend, the movie earned almost $3 million in the U.S., bringing its total there to $276 million. While reaching $300 million is getting harder, everyone is proud of its strong performance.

Dune: Part Two is not the usual blockbuster but has still earned about $695 million globally. It has made almost $300 million more than the first Dune movie and nearly $200 million over its estimated break-even point.

Dune: Part Two was made with a budget of $190 million.

Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the first Dune was released online and in theaters at the same time, which caused some controversy. This time, Warner Bros. gave the sequel a big theater release. The movie has made almost $150 million in IMAX screenings worldwide.

This film is Villeneuve’s biggest and has also been a career highlight for actor Timothée Chalamet. Chalamet had a hit with the movie Wonka earlier this year, making a combined total of around $1.3 billion for both films.

Chalamet plays the main character, Paul Atreides, in the Dune movies, which are cautionary stories about faith. There are plans for a third movie with him in the lead.
