The latest addition to the Doraemon anime franchise, “Doraemon: Nobita’s Earth Symphony,” made an impressive debut in Japan’s weekend box office.

Opening across 382 theaters on March 1, the 115-minute film earned a staggering 656 million yen (4.37 million USD) in its first three days, with 538,000 admissions, securing the top spot. Notably, this marked an equivalent first-weekend revenue to its predecessor, “Doraemon: Nobita’s Sky Utopia,” released in March 2023.

The film quickly garnered audience approval, ranking #4 in Filmarks’ first-day satisfaction rating, with an impressive average score of 3.75/5.0 based on 686 reviews.

In its third weekend, the first part of the two-part anime film “Haikyu!! FINAL” slipped to the second position after a two-week stint at the top.

The film accrued 525 million yen (3.49 million USD) from 380,000 admissions, contributing to a total of 5.1 billion yen (33.9 million USD) and 3.59 million admissions.

Meanwhile, the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed franchise’s sequel, “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM,” maintained its presence, securing the fifth position in its sixth weekend.

The film reported a cumulative earning of 3,707,774,060 yen (24.64 million USD) and 2,207,227 admissions in 38 days since its January 26 release.

In its fifth weekend, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Hashira Training-,” part of the Demon Slayer anime franchise, slipped to the seventh position, highlighting the continued impact of the series in Japanese theaters.

The live-action film adaptation of “Golden Kamuy” descended to the eighth position in its seventh weekend, and a sequel is already in the works as a serial drama series set for fall 2024.

The first part of the new anime film “Given The Movie: Hiiragi Mix,” part of the “Given” franchise, concluded its impressive run, yielding its top position in the mini-theater ranking after five consecutive weekends.

The second part, titled “Umi e (To the Sea),” is eagerly awaited, and scheduled for release in fall 2024.
