Brian Bonsall, known for his role in the beloved 1994 Disney film Blank Check, has found himself at the center of recent discussions surrounding a controversial scene from the movie.

At the tender age of 12, Bonsall took on the lead role in this comedic adventure, where a young boy’s whimsical use of a blank check leads to unexpected escapades, including purchasing a house under an assumed identity.

While Blank Check initially garnered a mixed reception upon its release, it remained relatively unremarkable in terms of controversy. However, with the resurgence of interest in older films, particularly through the lens of contemporary social perspectives, a scene featuring Bonsall being kissed by his then-31-year-old female co-star has sparked considerable debate and criticism.

Social media platforms have become forums for expressing outrage and disappointment over this specific moment, with many questioning its appropriateness, especially given the significant age gap between the actors involved.

Furthermore, Disney’s perceived inconsistency in content moderation has also come under scrutiny, with the removal of certain LGBTQIA+ TV shows and films contrasted against Blank Check’s continued availability.

The removal of Love, Victor, a spin-off of Love, Simon, from Disney’s streaming platform has been particularly contentious, with critics arguing that it reflects a broader reluctance to embrace LGBTQIA+ narratives deemed “too adult” by the company’s standards.

Against this backdrop, Blank Check’s renewed attention has prompted Bonsall to address rumors surrounding his experience on set.

Taking to Facebook, Bonsall sought to dispel any negativity surrounding his involvement in the film, expressing gratitude for the opportunity and fond memories of the filming process.

Despite the controversy surrounding a particular scene, Bonsall’s message highlights the enduring affection many hold for Blank Check and the joy it continues to bring to audiences, even decades later.
