A video emerged on Sunday depicting a scuffle allegedly involving Cam Newton, the 2015 NFL Most Valuable Player, at a 7-on-7 youth football tournament in Atlanta.
In the video, Cam Newton, sporting one of his signature custom-made hats, is seen being pushed by three individuals near a staircase. The altercation escalates as pushing, shoving, and grabbing near a fence line ensue.
The video, under 30 seconds long, concludes as law enforcement and event security intervene to diffuse the situation at the WeBall Sports x DynastyU 7v7 tournament held at B.E.S.T. Academy.
Newton, the top overall selection in the 2011 NFL Draft from Auburn University, seems to refrain from throwing any punches in the video. Instead, he appears to defend himself against three other individuals.
While one punch is directed towards Newton, it remains unclear whether it actually connects with the former quarterback. It’s also uncertain what prompted the altercation.
Newton, a native of Atlanta, leads the C1N organization, established in 2021. The organization’s primary objective, as stated on Newton’s website, is to enhance the football skills of young athletes by offering opportunities to engage in top-level competition through events like 7-on-7 tournaments.
C1N’s mission is to cultivate an atmosphere conducive to growth and progress both on and off the field, aiding young athletes in attaining their aspirations in football and beyond.
Newton last played in the NFL in 2021, during which he had a stint with the Carolina Panthers, the team that originally drafted him.
Across his 11 seasons in the league, Newton amassed over 32,000 passing yards and threw 194 touchdowns. Additionally, he rushed for 75 touchdowns during his tenure with both the Panthers and the New England Patriots.
