“Freaky Friday” Sequel Coming: Curtis and Lohan Reunite for 2025 Release

Freaky Friday

Jamie Lee Curtis has been pushing for a “Freaky Friday” sequel for years. In October 2022, she shared her idea for the sequel, where she would play a “sexy grandma” who switches places with Lindsay Lohan’s character. Curtis joked about wanting to handle the challenges of being a modern parent while letting Lohan play the glamorous grandma. She talked about this idea in “The View,” showing her enthusiasm for the project.

Lindsay Lohan confirmed Curtis’s enthusiasm by sharing that Curtis had reached out to her about the sequel idea. Lohan, while filming another project, received a message from Curtis, which instantly excited her. This reconnection and mutual excitement further fueled the anticipation for the sequel. The conversation about “Freaky Friday 2” reignited memories and excitement for both stars and their fans.

By March 2024, the sequel was officially in development. Jamie Lee Curtis hinted at this with a social media post featuring a selfie with Lohan, tagged with “FFDEUX” and mentioning Disney. Disney confirmed the sequel’s development to The Hollywood Reporter, marking the official return of the beloved body-switching comedy. The announcement included Curtis and Lohan reprising their roles, with Nisha Ganatra set to direct.

The sequel will see many original cast members returning, including Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, and others. Curtis also shared a photo with director Ganatra and writer Jordan Weiss, celebrating the all-female team behind the project. Lohan responded positively to Curtis’s enthusiasm, further building the momentum and fan anticipation for the sequel.

New cast members joining “Freaky Friday 2” include Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Manny Jacinto, Sophia Hammons, and Julia Butters, though their roles remain undisclosed. Disney announced that filming had begun, with a release date set for 2025.

A promotional image of Curtis and Lohan on set, humorously hinting at their body-swapped characters, excited fans even more. The sequel’s plot involves Anna Coleman’s (Lohan) teenage daughter, Harper, dealing with family dynamics and an impending wedding, setting the stage for another body-swapping adventure.
