In an interview with Total Film, producer Doug Mitchell offered an intriguing glimpse into the origins of the highly anticipated Mad Max prequel, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

Mitchell shared that the foundation for Furiosa’s story was actually established a staggering 15 years ago, with the script fully realized even before the groundbreaking success of Mad Max: Fury Road.

However, what truly surprises fans is the revelation that Furiosa’s journey was initially envisioned as an anime film titled The Peach, with esteemed director Mahiro Maeda attached to the project. Maeda, known for his contributions to iconic anime films like Neon Genesis Evangelion and Studio Ghibli classics, was set to bring Furiosa to life in animated form.

Yet, as fate would have it, Furiosa’s path diverged from its anime origins, undergoing a remarkable transformation into a live-action spectacle under the guidance of director George Miller.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga stands as the fifth installment in the legendary Mad Max franchise, serving as both a spin-off and prequel to Fury Road.
