Ian Gelder, the esteemed British actor celebrated for his portrayal of Kevan Lannister in the iconic series “Game of Thrones,” passed away on Monday due to complications from bile duct cancer. He was 74.

Confirmation of Gelder’s passing came from his partner, Ben Daniels, who shared the news on Instagram, expressing profound sadness and heartbreak over the loss.

Daniels revealed that Gelder had been battling bile duct cancer since December, and his passing came swiftly, leaving them both unprepared for the speed of its progression.

In “Game of Thrones,” Gelder portrayed the role of Kevan Lannister, the younger brother of Lord Tywin Lannister, appearing in 12 episodes of the HBO series.

Beyond his notable role in “Game of Thrones,” Gelder showcased his talent across various television series, including “Doctor Who,” “Snatch,” and “Fifteen-Love,”. 

A seasoned stage performer, Gelder graced the theater with his presence in numerous classic productions such as “The Crucible,” “The Taming of the Shrew,” and “The Front Page.” Ben Daniels paid tribute to Gelder’s remarkable acting prowess and his resilient spirit in the face of illness.

Daniels described him as a beacon of light in the industry and expressed the profound impact he had on those fortunate enough to work alongside him. In addition to his television and film work, Gelder made notable guest appearances in acclaimed series like “His Dark Materials” and “Doctor Who.”
