The New York Giants are reinforcing their quarterback position, expressing continued confidence in Daniel Jones while adding potential veteran competition. They’ve agreed to terms with former Seattle Seahawks backup Drew Lock on a one-year contract, as confirmed by our Insider.

Lock’s one-year deal is valued at $5 million, fully guaranteed, making him one of the higher-paid backups in the league for the 2024 season.

Although the Giants anticipate Jones, who secured a $160 million extension as the starter last year, returning from a midseason ACL tear by training camp, Lock provides experienced insurance with 23 career starts from his time in Seattle and with the Denver Broncos.

Originally a second-round pick by the Broncos in 2019, the same year Jones was drafted by the Giants, Lock spent three seasons in Denver, showing promise as a rookie but facing challenges with turnovers in 2020. Traded to the Seahawks in 2022 as part of Denver’s deal for Russell Wilson, Lock served as Geno Smith’s primary backup for two seasons.

He made two emergency starts in 2023, gaining an appreciation for a comeback upset against the Philadelphia Eagles.

With Tyrod Taylor departing in free agency, Lock is expected to begin his tenure with the Giants as the No. 2 quarterback, providing depth and potentially competing with Jones or a future draft pick.
