Tsutomu Mizushima, the director behind the popular Girls und Panzer series, is leading a fresh project called Train to the End of the World This new anime is set to debut in Japan on April 1.

Mizushima’s unique style is evident in this project, although it offers a twist on his usual themes.

“In a time when ‘fantasy’ means dungeons and guilds,” Mizushima explains, “Train to the End of the World breaks away from the norm.”

You can catch sneak peeks of the upcoming anime on Kadokawa’s YouTube channel. Although the main characters are mostly young girls, the trailers suggest that their train journey will be filled with suspense and drama, setting an ominous tone for the story.

This aligns with Mizushima’s well-known Girls und Panzer series. Despite its quirky premise, the show always balanced humor with serious moments, ensuring that there were meaningful stakes and tension throughout.

Mizushima, Michiko Yokote, and Asako Nishida are leading the creation of Train to the End of the World. Chika Anzai voices Shizuru, joined by Azumi Waki, Erisa Kuon, and Hina Kino.

Fans of Girls und Panzer will recognize Mizushima’s style in Train to the End of the World: characters with soft art style and heavy machinery, like tanks and aircraft carriers, exploring unique worlds.

In a peculiar countryside town, something strange was happening to the people. Among them was Shizuru Chikura, who missed her friend dearly. So, she gathered three other girls and they decided to go on an adventure.

They found an old, abandoned train nearby. Despite its rusty appearance, they felt drawn to it. Without hesitation, they climbed aboard and set off into the unknown.

As they traveled, they faced many challenges. They encountered strange creatures and dangerous places. But they stuck together, relying on their friendship.

Finally, they reached their destination. There, Shizuru found her lost friend. They embraced, happy to be together again.

Train to the End of the World has the potential to stand out in April with its distinctive premise and visuals. While many anime series fall into the fantasy genre, they often draw inspiration from high-fantasy literature or video games like Dragon Quest.

Even acclaimed works such as Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End or Delicious in Dungeon tend to feature common fantasy elements like elves and dwarves.

In contrast, urban fantasies like Solo Leveling typically revolve around battling monsters. The premise of Train to the End of the World, however, offers a fresh and original concept with its otherworldly train journey, truly embodying the essence of a “fantastical” tale.

So, even though we don’t know much about “Train to the End of the World,” we can expect it to be gripping and meaningful, just like “Girls und Panzer.”

Mizushima’s latest project, titled “Train to the End of the World”, hints at some serious challenges for the four girls on their journey.

The promotional art adds to the suspense with its ominous imagery. When the anime arrives next month, it’s bound to offer something different from the usual fantasy stories out there.
