Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom is the biggest movie yet in the franchise

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM was first released in Japan on January 26 and has become a huge success. It is now the most successful Gundam movie at the box office, bringing the series back to the big screen in a big way.

The movie has earned over US$23 million so far, and its success seems to be just beginning. Set in the Cosmic Era timeline, SEED Freedom is the latest installment in the Gundam SEED subseries that started with the original Mobile Suit Gundam SEED anime series in 2002.

The story takes place after the events of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny, focusing on the threat posed by the invading Blue Cosmos group. Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom is a part of the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Project ignited initiative, which started in 2022 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first anime.

Since then, there have been many SEED-related projects, such as video games and manga. Development for SEED Freedom began in 2006, but the movie encountered several challenges, including the passing of the original series writer Chiaki Morosawa.
