Haikyu!! Final Film Surpasses 6.99 Million Tickets Sold In Record-breaking Success

From the official X account for the two-part Haikyu!! The final sequel film project was revealed on Wednesday, and the first film, “HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle,” has achieved unprecedented success in Japanese theaters.

Surpassing expectations, the film has sold over 6.99 million tickets and grossed a staggering 10 billion yen (approximately US$63 million) in just 75 days since its premiere on February 16.

To celebrate this monumental achievement, the film’s staff shared a special outdoor advertisement video that had graced the towering Shinjuku Wall 456 display near Tokyo’s Shinjuku Station for a week.

Directed and scripted by Susumu Mitsunaka, known for his work on the first and third seasons of the Haikyu!! television anime, “The Dumpster Battle” has not only captured the hearts of fans but also clinched the title of the biggest opening weekend for a film in Japan this year.

Its impressive debut earnings of 2,230,465,540 yen (about US$14.12 million) outshone even the renowned “Mobile Suit Gundam Seed FREEDOM” anime film.

Excitement continues to build as the film prepares for its North American debut on May 31, with screenings offering both Japanese audio with English subtitles and an English dub.

This eagerly anticipated release ensures that fans everywhere will be able to experience the exhilarating showdown between Karasuno High and Nekoma High depicted in the first installment of the “Haikyu!! Final” film project.

Since its inception in 2011, Haruichi Furudate’s Haikyu!! manga has gained a loyal fanbase with its thrilling volleyball matches and endearing characters. With the ending of the manga series in July 2020, fans eagerly await the culmination of the epic story on the silver screen.
