The official X account, previously known as Twitter, shared big news about the first part of the Haikyu!! Final sequel film project.

They said that the film, called HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle (Gekijōban Haikyu!! Gomi Suteba no Kessen), has been a huge hit.

It sold over 6.99 million tickets in Japan, making over 10 billion yen (around US$63 million) in just 75 days (up to April 30).

To celebrate, the film’s team shared a video of its outdoor ad that was shown on a big screen near Tokyo’s Shinjuku Station for a week.

The movie premiered in Japan on February 16, and it’s also showing in IMAX. Susumu Mitsunaka, who worked on the first and third Haikyu!! TV anime, directed and wrote the script for the film.

In its first three days, the film sold 1,529,000 tickets, making 2,230,465,540 yen (around US$14.12 million).

It’s had the best opening weekend for any film in Japan this year, beating the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed FREEDOM anime film, which earned 1,065,983,130 yen in its opening weekend.

The movie will hit theaters in North America on May 31. You can catch it in Japanese with English subtitles or dubbed in English.

Back in August 2022, the team behind the anime announced these two films. The first one focuses on the big showdown between Karasuno High and Nekoma High.

Haikyu!! started as a manga by Haruichi Furudate back in 2011 and wrapped up in July 2020. Shueisha published the final volume, number 45, in November 2020.

Viz Media handles the English version, both digital and print, releasing it at the same time as the Japanese version digitally. MANGA Plus also offers the manga in English digitally.

Production I.G’s first TV adaptation of the manga came out in April 2014. Then, we got the second season in October 2015, and the third one in October 2016.

The first part of Haikyu!! To The Top, the fourth season, kicked off in January 2020. It went up to episode 13 in April 2020.

But the second part, with episodes 14 to 25, was supposed to start in July 2020. Unfortunately, it got pushed back because of COVID-19. It finally aired in October 2020.

Apart from the anime, the manga also inspired stage plays, a clay-animated short, compilation anime films, and a bunch of video anime. There’s even a new stage play that ran from August 19 to 27.
