In the previous chapter of Hajime no Ippo, the mood at the gym was pretty grim because of the news they had received. Mashiba’s match for the world champion title against Marcus Rosario was two weeks away but there was no news about Rosario’s whereabouts yet. Typically, he should have arrived in Japan already.
The contenders usually arrive a few weaks before the match begins to adjust to the time zone of the place and complete other formalities. However, no one knew where Rosario was and everyone was wondering if Rosario was going to be a no-show at such an important match since it would definitely strip him off his title.
He had been looking forward to come face to face with Marcus Rosario and have a honest fight to win the title. Rosario not showing up would ruin everything he had worked for and crush his dreams. Ippo also realized that and he showed his anger and remorse at the possibility of it happening.
However, an unexpected call arrives and we finally get to know about Rosario’s whereabouts. Later, Marcus Rosario arrives at the airport in the nick of time and someone comes to pick him up. From their conversation, we realize that Rosario had gone missing because he got thrown in jail and it was a hassle to bail him out.
Some guy whipped out his gun and Rosario took out his gun for self protection. Well, things didn’t go so well because he got tossed in jail for misconduct anyway, and that too right when he has a match. Rosario didn’t take the nagging too well and it is obvious that he is the kind of guy who doesn’t like following too many rules.
