In 2024, One Chicago Desperately Needs A Crossover

One Chicago is one of the most-watched television series in recent memory, and the three TV shows could use a three-part crossover in 2024. The NBC media franchise started with the October 2012 premiere of Chicago Fire, a drama series created by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas.

The drama series was an instant hit, and the network ordered a spinoff, Chicago PD, which debuted in January 2014. After that show proved to be successful, NBC ordered a second spinoff, Chicago Med, which debuted in November 2015.

There was a fourth series, Chicago Justice, but it was cancelled after one season in 2017. Seasons 12 of Chicago Fire, 11 of Chicago PD, and 9 of Chicago Med debuted in January 2024. Since its 2012 premiere, the One Chicago franchise has produced 33 seasons and more than 600 episodes.

It looks like the franchise has been pretty successful, and NBC has made the most of that popularity throughout the years by creating crossovers between the three procedural shows. One Chicago, like many TV shows, has its highs and lows, though, and a crossover in 2024 would be beneficial for all of the programs.

One Chicago Hasn’t Had A Crossover Event Since 2019

Since 2016, NBC has produced three crossovers from One Chicago, featuring Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, and Chicago Med. Naturally, there have been many two-part crossovers between the two series throughout the years (and occasionally between Chicago PD and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit).

It has been five years since the three television shows that comprise the franchise came together, though, and a crossover is long overdue. The last three-part event occurred in 2019. In January 2016, the first three-part One Chicago crossover aired.

The tale took off with the Chicago Fire episode “The Beating Heart,” carried over into Chicago Med’s “Malignant,” and came to a close with Chicago PD’s “Now I’m God.” When Christopher Herrmann was stabbed at Molly’s and taken to the hospital, the physicians, firefighters, and police officers happened to cross paths.

The following incident happened in October 2018, and the storyline focused on an apartment building fire that sent many victims to the hospital and prompted a police inquiry into arson. In October 2019, the latest crossover episode aired, depicting a bioterrorist unleashing a lethal bacterium in Chicago.

Many concur that it has been much too long since the epic three-part crossover between the One Chicago series and other television shows. The shows might need a crossover, given their recent downward trend in quality.

Reminding viewers that there are still many complicated individuals in this universe could be beneficial, especially in light of the recent terrible character exits from every series. Bringing the characters together to present a single, connected story is always entertaining because the result is an episode that lasts three hours.

Audiences have responded favourably to the past three crossovers, and a new one might bring the three series back to life. Regretfully, it doesn’t appear that NBC has a three-part program scheduled for the start of 2024.

Naturally, as the weeks pass and the network releases information about the future episodes of Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, and Chicago Med, this might all change. However, as of the time this article was written, a crossover was not anticipated; perhaps things will change for the following fall seasons.
