The Gaza Government Media Office reported a significant loss of life in the Nuseirat refugee camp, labeling it an “Israeli massacre” with 210 Palestinians killed and over 400 wounded. The majority of the casualties were reported as children and women, overwhelming local medical facilities.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza highlighted the dire situation at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, stating that the influx of casualties stretched their resources thin. Shortages of medicine, food, and fuel exacerbated the crisis, with the hospital’s main generator failing due to fuel scarcity.
Despite communication disruptions caused by intense bombardment, reports from inside the hospital depicted a scene of chaos and desperation. Al Jazeera’s correspondent described a tense atmosphere with constant explosions, overwhelmed medical staff, and terrified civilians seeking refuge.
Witnesses, including medical personnel from organizations like Doctors Without Borders (MSF), described the aftermath of the attacks as horrific, likening the hospital to a “slaughterhouse.” The assault coincided with an Israeli rescue operation in Nuseirat aimed at freeing captives, resulting in further casualties on both sides.
