The New York Knicks faced skepticism as they entered the playoff tournament, but they silenced their critics by defeating the 76ers 4-2 in the first-round series. Leading the charge was Jalen Brunson, whose stellar play in the regular season propelled the Knicks to the playoffs.

Brunson’s outstanding performance in the playoffs has etched his name in NBA history. According to The Athletic, Brunson became the first player since NBA legend Michael Jordan to score at least 37 points in four consecutive playoff games.

This feat was achieved from Game 3 to 6, mirroring Jordan’s performance in the 1993 NBA Finals against the Phoenix Suns. In that series, Jordan scored 42, 44, 55, and 41 points, setting a high standard for greatness. Following in the footsteps of such a legend is a significant achievement in itself.

Additionally, Brunson became only the third player in NBA Playoff history to record more than 40 points and 10 assists in a series-clinching victory. His playoff numbers exceeded expectations, propelling the Knicks to the second round of the playoff series.

Let’s take a closer look at Brunson’s playoff series performance

While the opening two games saw Brunson scoring 22 and 24 points respectively, securing a 2-0 lead, he truly shone in Game 3. In that game, he posted a double-double with 39 points and 13 assists despite the Sixers taking the win and narrowing the series to 2-1.

In the following game, Brunson showcased his resilience, tallying an impressive 47 points, 4 rebounds, and 10 assists. Despite his 40-point contribution in Game 5, the Sixers narrowly clinched the victory.
