DC Studios head James Gunn has hinted at the potential introduction of another Justice League International member in the DC Universe. Responding to a fan inquiry on social media, Gunn expressed his long-time admiration for Captain Atom, a character acquired by DC Comics in the 1980s. Captain Atom, known for his energy-manipulating abilities, has been part of various Justice League teams.

Gunn further fueled speculation by sharing an image of a Captain Atom comic cover on his Instagram Story. Fans remember the character as a member of the Justice League International, which included iconic figures like Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Booster Gold, Blue Beetle, Batman, and Hawkman.

Gunn previously shared an image of the Justice League International from Tom King and Greg Smallwood’s The Human Target.

With confirmed appearances of Guy Gardner, Batman, Booster Gold, and variations of Blue Beetle and Hawkman in the DC Universe, fans speculate that the first DCU Justice League lineup might be based on the Justice League International roster.

However, Gunn has not officially confirmed this, and caution is advised against reading too much into speculation until an official announcement is made.

While Hawkgirl could potentially fill the role of Hawkman in a Justice League International movie, Aldis Hodge, who portrayed Hawkman in 2022’s Black Adam, remains open to reprising the role in Gunn’s DCU. Hodge expressed interest in finishing the character’s storyline, highlighting the depth of Hawkman’s narrative.

The upcoming Superman: Legacy is set to be the official launch of the DCU, with the animated series Creature Commandos serving as a precursor.

The film stars David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and introduces characters like Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner, Metamorpho, and Mister Terrific, portrayed by Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, Anthony Carrigan, and Edi Gathegi, respectively. Gunn’s teases have sparked anticipation among fans for the expansion of the DCU and the potential inclusion of Captain Atom.
