Just days after Robert Downey Jr. was announced as Dr. Victor Von Doom in the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday,” Jonathan Majors revealed his reaction to the surprising news. Majors expressed being “heartbroken” over Marvel’s new direction, as he had a strong attachment to his role as Kang the Conqueror. Despite his disappointment, he acknowledged the appeal of Dr. Doom as a character.

Marvel’s decision to replace the “Avengers: Kang Dynasty” film, which was set to feature Majors’ character introduced in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” in 2023, left him without the role. This change marked a significant shift in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) trajectory, impacting Majors’ involvement with the franchise.

When asked about the differing public reactions to the legal troubles of Robert Downey Jr. and Ezra Miller compared to his own, Majors hinted at a racial disparity. He noted that both Downey and Miller were met with patience and support, allowing them to continue their careers, while he felt he did not receive similar treatment. Majors’ comments highlighted a perceived inconsistency in how he was treated relative to his peers.

Majors’ legal issues began in March 2023, when he was arrested on assault and harassment charges involving his then-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. He faced additional accusations and was ultimately found guilty of two misdemeanor counts, resulting in probation and a one-year domestic violence treatment program. Interestingly, just a month before his arrest, Majors had expressed his eagerness for a crossover between his character, Kang, and Downey’s Iron Man, praising Downey’s impact on the MCU.

Despite his legal challenges, Majors remains hopeful about returning to the MCU. He expressed his enthusiasm for reprising his role as Kang, emphasizing his love for the character and willingness to come back if the fans and Marvel desired it. As of June 2024, Majors is set to appear in the sci-fi revenge thriller “Merciless,” though there are no current plans for his reunion with Marvel.
