Joo Won Opens Up About Emotional Connection to “The Midnight Studio” ENA’s upcoming fantasy drama, “The Midnight Studio,” has drawn heartfelt reflections from lead actor Joo Won.

Directed by Song Hyung Wook and written by Kim Yi Rang, the series delves into the unusual narrative of a solitary photographer running a studio for the deceased, intertwining with a fervent lawyer. The fantastical tale unfolds within the studio, inviting contemplation on the significance of both well-being and well-dying.

Joo Won, expressing a profound connection with the script, recalled, “When I first read [the script], I could relate to it a lot, and I cried a lot for the first time in a while.” He emphasized the universal appeal of the heartwarming narrative as the driving force behind choosing the project.

In the drama, Joo Won embodies Seo Ki Joo, a seventh-generation photographer managing a specialized studio focused on capturing images of the departed for over a century. Endowed with a mystical camera facilitating the passage of generations into the afterlife, he carries a curse that limits his lifespan to 35 years. Despite Ki Joo’s seemingly cold demeanour, he is resolute in fulfilling the final wishes of the departed.

Reflecting on the ghostly clientele, Joo Won emphasized their ordinary lives before passing, connecting deeply with their stories. The emotional impact extended beyond the lead actor, with several cast members shedding tears during filming. Beyond its fantasy elements, the poignant narratives add significant depth to the series.

Joo Won shed light on the pivotal role of Han Bom (Kwon Nara) in Ki Joo’s life, explaining her significance in shielding him from the spirits that plague him.

Facing life-threatening situations daily and approaching his 35th birthday, Ki Joo finds solace in Bom, his “ghost-free zone.” This dynamic becomes a transformative experience for Ki Joo, marking a turning point in his existence.

Director Song Hyun Wook praised Joo Won’s portrayal of Ki Joo, navigating a character burdened by fate, yet gradually opening up to love.
