Years later, Mina becomes a captain in the Third Division, while Kafka struggles, failing the entrance exam and working in kaiju cleanup.

Encountering aspiring recruit Reno Ichikawa reignites Kafka’s ambitions. But fate intervenes when Kafka gains powers after an unexpected encounter with a small kaiju during a cleanup operation.

Transformed into a hybrid known as Kaiju No. 8, Kafka hides his new powers as he tries to rejoin the Defense Force. Despite his lifelong dream, his efforts are hindered by being labeled a kaiju.
