Julius Randle, a key figure for the Knicks, is set for season-ending shoulder surgery. In contrast, Mitchell Robinson is slowly regaining his form, and O.G. Anunoby is on the cusp of a return.

Anunoby, acquired from the Raptors in December, had an immediate impact before an elbow injury sidelined him for nearly 20 games. His return to the lineup on March 12 was short-lived, aggravating the injury in his third game back.

What is O.G. Anunoby’s injury?

Anunoby was out from Jan. 29 to March 11 due to the elbow issue. Initially, the 26-year-old was listed with right elbow inflammation. Shortly after, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Anunoby underwent surgery to remove a loose bone fragment from his right elbow.

Although the procedure was minor, it was expected to keep Anunoby out for at least three weeks. Originally planning on rest and recovery, Wojnarowski mentioned the surgery might ensure Anunoby is “fully healed” for the final stretch of the season.

Since his return on March 12, Anunoby has missed nine consecutive games after aggravating the injury. The Knicks, during this period, hold a 5-4 record.

Acquired from the Raptors in December, Anunoby’s trade brought RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley to Toronto. His impact on the team is undeniable, with averages of 14.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.7 steals over 17 games for New York. Notably, the Knicks boast an impressive 15-2 record when Anunoby takes the court.
