The May issue of Monthly Afternoon magazine just dropped in Japan, and it’s announced that Haruko Ichikawa’s long-running series, “Land of the Lustrous,” is coming to an end. The final chapter will be in the June issue, hitting shelves on April 25, 2024.

It’s been quite the journey for “Land of the Lustrous,” which kicked off its twelve-year serialization back in October 2012.

Along the way, it snagged spots in Kono Manga ga Sugoi!’s yearly rankings not once, but twice. Despite facing a few hiatuses, fans have stuck by the series through thick and thin.

And let’s not forget the anime adaptation! Produced by the talented folks at TRIGUN STAMPEDE studio Orange, it wowed audiences with its visuals and storytelling prowess.

For those unfamiliar with the story, here’s the gist: “Land of the Lustrous” takes place in a world where crystalline beings known as The Lustrous must fend off the Lunarians, who want to use them as decorations. Our protagonist, Phosphophyllite, might be fragile, but they’re eager to prove themselves in battle.

Instead, they end up with the seemingly boring task of documenting their world’s natural history. Along the way, they meet Cinnabar, another gem living in isolation, and together, they set out on a journey of self-discovery.

With the series wrapping up, fans are gearing up for an emotional farewell while eagerly anticipating how it all concludes in the June issue.
