NBC hosts the late-night news and political satire variety talk show Late Night with Seth Meyers, which is hosted by Seth Meyers. Broadway Video and Universal Television are the producers of the program, which made its debut on February 24, 2014.
David Letterman founded the Late Night franchise, which is now in its eleventh iteration with this show. One week later, Seth Meyers was named host when Jimmy Fallon was revealed to take over as the new host of The Tonight Show (now known as The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon), replacing Jay Leno.
The first guests on Meyers’ show were musical group A Great Big World, then-US Vice President Joe Biden, and fellow SNL alum and Weekend Update co-anchor Amy Poehler. The 8G Band, the house band of the show, is usually led by SNL alum Fred Armisen and includes members of the indie bands Girls Against Boys and Les Savy Fav.
The redesigned set made its premiere on September 2, 2014. NBC extended Meyers’ hosting contract through 2021 on January 13, 2016. The show’s production was halted on March 13, 2020, because of the COVID-19 pandemic in the US.
The show was produced from either Meyers’ home or his parents-in-laws’ summer residence starting on March 30, 2020. On September 8, 2020, Meyers returned to a revised studio devoid of a live audience. The show was presented live again on October 11, 2021. Meyers’ contract with NBC was extended on February 26, 2021, so he can continue hosting until 2025.
