Lenzo Yoon, a pivotal figure in the success of BTS and a longtime executive at Hybe (formerly Big Hit Entertainment), is set to depart the company by the end of 2024, as reported by South Korean outlet Maeil Kyungjae.
Yoon, who joined Hybe in 2010 as Head of Strategic Planning when it was still known as Big Hit, played a crucial role in shaping the company’s strategy and growth, particularly through innovative fan engagement initiatives.
Although Yoon formally stepped down from his role as co-CEO of Hybe America in January 2023, he remained a significant influence within the organization. His tenure saw the development of Hybe’s in-house fan content strategy, which became integral to the early success of BTS.
This approach emphasized direct artist-to-fan connections through platforms like Weverse, a fan app that has been a cornerstone of Hybe’s business strategy and recently attracted investment from Universal Music Group.
During his time at Hybe, Yoon spearheaded initiatives that expanded the company’s reach beyond K-pop, including the acquisition of Atlanta-based QC Media Holdings, home to prominent rap artists. This move underlined Hybe’s ambitions to diversify its entertainment portfolio under the leadership of figures like Scooter Braun, who became the sole CEO of Hybe America after selling his company to Hybe in 2021.
Yoon’s departure marks the end of an era characterized by Hybe’s rapid global expansion and the transformative impact of K-pop on the music industry. His strategic foresight into digital media and content creation not only propelled BTS to global stardom but also laid the groundwork for Hybe’s ongoing success in engaging fans worldwide.
